What is the Uganda e-Visa?

The Uganda e-Visa is the digital version of the traditional Ugandan visa. It is officially recognized as a document for entering and traveling in Uganda for tourism purposes.

For travelers to Uganda for tourism purposes, the majority of foreign citizens are required to submit a tourist visa application online via the e-Visa system. This process enables a single-entry e-visa to be obtained.

For those wishing a multiple-entry visa for Uganda, it should be noted that this option is generally not available. However, a convenient alternative is the online East Africa visa. This visa allows you to visit Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda with a single document, avoiding the need to obtain separate visas for each country. You can also apply for an East Africa visa via our platform.

What activities are permitted and prohibited with the Uganda Tourist e-Visa?

With this e-visa, you are authorized to travel to Uganda for tourism, business, family visits, medical treatment or study for a limited period of time. However, it is important to note that you are not authorized to work or receive remuneration during the period of your trip.

Does approval of my application guarantee my admission to Uganda?

Approval of your e-visa application for Uganda does not automatically guarantee your admission to the country. Final approval is granted at the point of entry designated by the Ugandan Immigration Service for e-visas. If you prefer not to apply online, you can obtain approval at the local Ugandan embassy or consular office. It is imperative to present a valid visa approval letter or one of the available single-entry or multiple-entry e-visas to enter Uganda. No other travel documents will be accepted.

Although not mandatory, it is recommended that you present a printed version of your e-visa on arrival in Uganda. The e-tourist visa is linked electronically to your passport, but the barcode on the e-visa can be used to access your application at the point of entry, if required.

    Some important instructions to remember:

    - The Ugandan tourist visa is valid for 90 days after issue.

    - The maximum stay is 45 days in total, and the visa is valid for a single entry.

    - You must be outside the Republic of Uganda at the time of application.

    - You must not hold another valid electronic visa for Uganda at the time of application.

    - Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months when you enter Uganda.

    - This visa cannot be converted to a work visa once in Uganda.

What else should you consider before travelling to Uganda?

    Local currency, payments and ATMs:

It is strongly recommended that you bring cash with you on your trip to Uganda, as Ugandan society operates mainly on cash. Although credit cards are increasingly accepted, they are not universally accepted and may present risks of fraud or theft. You can pay in dollars (especially in hotels or on safari) or in the local currency, the Ugandan shilling. Note that the use of dollar bills dating from 2010 or later is recommended due to counterfeiting, and higher-value bills generally offer a better exchange rate at bureaux de change. Although ATMs are available in Kampala, it is advisable to use them during bank opening hours to avoid security problems. Outside the major cities, Ugandan shillings are preferable, with better exchange rates in Entebbe and Kampala.

Weather and recommended periods for tourism:

As Uganda is a tropical country, the best time to travel is during the dry season, generally between December and February, as well as between June and August, thus avoiding the rainy season caused by the monsoon. Popular tourist activities include safaris to observe gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Places such as Bwindi National Park and Kibale Forest offer unique animal-watching experiences. Jinja, a town on the shores of Lake Victoria, is also a popular destination for adventure activities such as rafting, kayaking, bungee jumping and bird watching.
